Make local/regional adjustments, such as brightness, using a variety of tools such as a linear or radial gradient, or by drawing an area.

This!!!! Please take a very close look at how Snapseed is doing this with their “Selective” tool. It is the best local adjustment tool I’ve ever used. Add a “hue” adjustment to that and it would be out of this world amazing!

Philipp, what are you using it mostly for? Change the color of specificity colored parts of you photo?

Yes exactly. I use it to change brightness, saturation, contrast, and structure of specific areas of an image. The user interface for this is just so intuitive and smart. I can manipulate specific areas of photos way quicker than with any other app, including Lightroom on Mac.
I often use it to desaturate blue sky hues in white clothing or darken washed out darks, for example. I only wish it also had a “hue” adjustment.
Have a look at the quick screen recording I made on how I use the tool. It’s just so quick to make adjustments.

When I make regional adjustments with other tools I’ve long wanted the selection process to be easier. I’m often trying to isolate common things like people or the sky, and wonder if ML-based object detection would make the selection part quicker.

Just checking if the video helped explain the use case? If not I’d love to add more information. It’s such a transformative tool for me Id love to see it in darkroom.

We have a beta up, please give it a try! You can send any thought to feedback@darkroom.co https://darkroom.co/beta

Thanks a lot, Jasper! 👍

It looks like the beta is full. Anyway to join? I’d love to try out the new features and give you my thoughts. Thanks.

Ladies and gentlemen it has arrived: https://darkroom.co/blog/2022-04-masks

Yeesssss!!!!

I love how this feature came out! I would still recommend you guys have a look at Snapseed’s “Selective” tool. This would be an amazing addition to the masking options.
It’s so perfect to quickly select faces, a certain area, etc…
I’ve never encountered a more intuitive way to make a quick selection. I think it would be a great addition to what you already have!
